On entering this garden there was a long narrow passage between the kitchen and a high fence leading to a long narrow garden. The passage was shaded but would support ferns and hostas.
As with most long plots, it is important to create an illusion of a wider space and to prevent the eye from being drawn directly to the far boundary. In this instance the axis of the design was placed at 45 degrees and an archway with trellis to either side created separate spaces within the garden.
